Replacing Old Electrical Wiring in North Lauderdale, FL; Remove Backstab Wires, Add GFCI Outlet & More

When you buy a house most people are looking for a home that has the space they need. They also might be looking for upgrades that they love and wont have to make changes too right away. The problem is you also will go through an inspection in most home purchases and this might bring up issues you will need to address. Depending on the age of the house you might find that there are errors in the main structure of the home. You also might realize that some of the original work has to be upgraded. It may have been great when the house was built but there are lots of upgrades and updates that are constantly being done to make homes more efficient and safer. One area of the home that may need your attention is the electrical system. This is a major system that goes through the whole house and brings it into more modern times. You want to make sure you know what issues there could be and why they need to be upgraded. Burley Electrical Services outlines what upgrades you may need to make with your electrical system.

Remove Backstab Wires

One of the things you want to make sure you upgrade in your old house are called backstab wires. This is a practice that was used for a long time until something better comes along. When wires are attached to fixtures and outlets they are attached with a screw and to a specific terminal. This is a great way to attach them so that they are secure. The problem with backstab wires is that they are not secured but just brought back to the main wire. This means that they can become loose and unattached leaving a hot wire and making it so that the outlet or fixture is not working properly. You want to make sure that you have these wires inspected and if you have backstab wires they are upgraded and replaced.

Add a New GFCI Outlet

One of the things that you will see in homes that are newer is that they have outlets that have what is called a GFCI. These are an outlet that is used in areas that are prone to moisture. The most common areas are bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor outlets. If you move in an older home they may not have these and that creates a safety issue. You want to talk with an electrician to come out and update these outlets.

Upgrading Old & Outdated Electrical Fixtures

You want to make sure that your fixtures that are in your house are up to code and able to take on the newest types of bulbs. One of the best things about an older home is that you get amazing old fixtures that add character to the home. You want to keep them but you might notice that they flicker or they dim on occasion. This likely means that it needs to have upgraded wiring to keep up with the newer bulbs that you are using.
