Electric Energy Device Saving Conservation Myths & Tips in Pompano Beach FL

Saving energy has recently been a conscious effort among many people for a while now. Doing so conserves money and is a positive impact on the environment. But with all tips and suggestions floating around on how to do it, sometimes speculation and just good old fashion guessing is being passed around as fact. With myths spreading like wildfire, some of them are doing more harm than good.

Burley Electrical Services, Inc. would like to share facts and dismiss the myths for your electrical savings.

Myth: More energy is spent turning a light on and off as opposed to leaving it on.
Fact: Switching the light on does not course an extra power surge, and does not cost you to switch it on and off. When a light isn’t needed, turn it off to conserve power.
Myth: There are some devices that surge more energy when powering it on, as opposed to leaving it on.
Fact: That is untrue in feasible circumstances.
– Though computers and similar products do require an initial surge to power on, the measurement is so minuscule that it doesn’t affect energy consumption. Bottom line, the cost of turning on a computer when powered down may cost you a penny, as opposed to the dollars it costs leaving it for hours when not using it.
Myth: Leaving the A/C at 85 degrees when not home costs less than turning it off and then trying to cool it back down when someone is home.
Fact: Untrue. It costs less to cool a home after the A/C is off than leaving it operating all day. However, cooling a home down from 85 degrees instead of 98 degrees might feel more comfortable. This one is a matter of preference, but if your goal is to save money, turn it off when no one is home.
Myth: In electronic devices that are identical, the one designed with 240v uses more energy than the one equipped with 120v.
Fact: Despite the volts, energy companies charge for watt hours, not the volts, and in both devices wattage is the same.
Myth: Bad wiring doesn’t cost electricity usage.
Fact: Bad wiring can potentially leak electricity, causing you to pay for electricity not being used for anything in particular.
Myth: When electronic equipment is turned off, they are not consuming energy.
Fact: Even when the electronic devices are off, the power plug is still drawing in energy. Unplugging them or fitting them to a power stick that can be switched off is the only thing can ensure you are not paying for unnecessary energy for those devices.
Myth: Adjusting the temperature at your thermostat to the extreme can expedite cooling or heating the building.
Fact: It does not hurry the process; in fact you are straining your HVAC system and can ultimately cause costly repairs or even replacements by attempting that method.
