AC VS DC Current & AC/DC Adapters to Power Mobile Phones, HVAC, Television, Dishwasher & More in Boca Raton, FL

AC and DC are often thought of power rivals, so to speak, and provides power in different ways, however, in modern instances, these two work together. Today, we at Burley Electrical Services would like to discuss AC versus DC power in order to help clarify a few things.

How Does AC & DC Current Work

The standard of America’s early foray into the world of electricity was developed by Thomas Edison which involves the use of a direct current that runs in a single direction. Leading to alternative solutions, like Nikola Tesla’s AC current, the inability to be easily converted into higher/lower voltages. As it alternates and reverses direction 60 times per second, AC current could be converted to different voltages more easily using a transformer. In the end, George Westinghouse partnered with Tesla which is the future of America’s electrical infrastructure.

AC VS DC Current Power Applications

However, the way the electricity arrives at its destination is what differs, both AC and DC current deliver electricity.
– DC: With the use of battery have consistent and constant voltage of DC power supplies in these electronics, devices such as mobiles and smartphones are used. Between positive and negative terminals, such as the battery powering your kid’s remote-control car, the smooth, steady electrical current of DC power always flows in the same direction.
– AC: Your home or office receives electricity in the form of wave-like AC current and is capable of changing direction and voltage from higher to lower current with the help of transformers. By corded appliances small and large, the electricity is eaten in your home, from your HVAC to your TV and dishwasher.
– AC/DC: To recharge the battery between the outlet and the end that plugs into your computer, beginning with AC from the outlet to your charging cord, and it is converted into DC via the bulky little box (a power adapter), the laptop, for example uses a combination of both types of electric current. Some vehicles are designed to use a combination of AC/DC current as well.

Future of AC/DC Power

AC and DC power current will likely continue to work in tandem though they are expected to continue their perspective rivalry. With the rise of electric vehicles, LEDs, solar cells, and mobile electronics, predominantly powered by AC power across the nation, homes and business will continue to rely on. Paving the way for technology, however, methods for transporting and converting DC to higher and lower voltages with less electricity loss are continually to be under development.
