Troubleshooting & Repair of Common Electrical Problems in Your Pompano Beach, FL Home

A home’s electrical system requires maintenance and occasional repairs. Due to time and other factors, electrical systems often occur and cause problems for the homeowner. It is important to know when your home electrical system is having problems, so you can correct and repair them in a timely manner. Electricity can lead to dangerous situations such as electrocutions or electrical fires. To help prevent either of these situations, Burley Electrical Services will share some of the most common electrical problems and what to watch for to prevent electrical hazards.

Common Electrical Faults & Issues

Warm Electrical Fixtures and Switches: When you notice that the light switches or even manual light fixtures appear warm to the touch, this can be a warning sign. When heat builds up and can be felt when using the light switch or other fixtures, this is due to an outdated or old switch which requires replacement. When heat builds up around a switch this is potentially dangerous and can cause electrical fire. When light switches feel warm it is time to replace them and soon.
Lights Flickering & Dimming: When the light bulbs flicker, this is due to a loose connection. However, the loose connection may not be directly located at the light fixture. The loose connection can be anywhere within that circuit or the line. Loose connections are also dangerous. It can cause over heating or have exposed wires which can cause insulation and other materials to heat up and begin to burn.
Light Bulbs Burnout Quicklyl: When your light bulbs burnout frequently this is due to either a bulb that is too high in wattage for the light fixture, or there is too much power surging through the line causing the bulbs to burnout quickly. This is a minor problem. However, it can add up in cost when you frequently replace light bulbs.
Limited Electrical Outlets: Many older homes and even some modern homes never provide enough outlets for the needs of the household. With the technological age we live in, we often require more outlets to power our many electronics. When you use an adapter or power strip to power all of your electrical devices you can overload the circuit causing that circuit to trip. To help spread out the power load and prevent tripping your home breaker, consider adding outlets. Make sure you talk to an electrician to make sure you know what circuits can be added to.
Burnt Out or Dead Electrical Outlets: Outlets burn out all the time and can be a major inconvenience. For one, it can cause breakers to trip. Another is the loss of power to that outlet or even the entire circuit. In most cases a burnt outlet is harmless and more of an inconvenience. However, burn marks indicate a power over load which caused a spark that lead to the outlet burning out. The outlet should be quickly replaced to ensure your home’s electrical safety.
