Burley Electrical Services would like to relate the steps to replace your wired doorbell with a wireless one!

Electrical & Home Improvement Tools Needed & Process to Follow:
– Slotted and Phillips screwdriver, wire strippers, Linesman’s and needle nose pliers, drill and drill bits, voltage tester, masking tape, wire connectors and electrical tape.
1. Turn off the electricity running to your doorbell. At the circuit breaker box, power off the breaker panel.
2. Remove the old doorbell button.
– With the appropriate screwdriver, unscrew the mounting screws. If you don’t notice the screws, you may have to unsnap the cover.
– Cautiously, pull the unit from the wall without tugging too hard to disconnect the wires.
– Carefully disconnect the wires from the unit, and with the masking tape, secure the wires to the wall so they don’t slip into the wall cavity.
– If any stripped parts from the wire are exposed, repair with electrical tape.
– Tuck the wires back into the wall.
– Replace the new doorbell button. If the plate doesn’t cover the existing hole, you may have to fill it in with wood putty. After it is dried, sand and paint accordingly.
3. Install the wireless transmitter.
– Remove the back cover from the new unit, and by using a pencil, mark where you will need to drill the holes on the other side of the door frame.
– Drill your marked holes, and secure the new unit with the screws included in your kit. (Sometimes instead of screws, the manufacturer includes double sided tape instead. Use the method appropriate for your new unit.)
– Install the battery.
– Snap back in place.
4. Install wireless receiver.
– Follow directions on maximum distance.
– Plug your sound unit or receiver into the appropriate outlet.
– Some operate on batteries, make sure you install the batteries, and mount it a well strategic place.
– Test doorbell.

– Use your voltage tester to ensure power is off.
– Disconnect the wires with the appropriate screwdriver.
– If you discover the wires are frayed, strip the useless wires with your wire stripper to trim the ends and remove about 1/2 inch of insulation around the wire.
-Tape the wires to the wall with masking tape so they don’t fall into the wall crevice.
4. Install the new switch.
– Utilizing needle nose pliers and the appropriate screwdriver, secure the wires onto the new switch unit accordingly.
– Mount the new bell or switch back in place.
5. Conduct your doorbell test.
