Is Inground Pool Lighting Worth It in Coconut Creek, FL? What Types & How Many Lights are Needed & More

Getting a pool installed in your backyard can be an exciting time. The endless number of hours that can be spent in your new pool is enough to have homeowners more than excited for the install. When you’re planning for your pool, something that you don’t want to forget is the pool lighting. This is an important part of getting the full enjoyment out of your new swimming pool. Burley Electrical Services is here to talk about pool lighting and some things you should consider as you’re planning for your new swimming pool.

Are Pool Lights Necessary?

You won’t be able to fully enjoy your pool without pool lighting in it. Without lighting, you can enjoy it during the day, but would miss out on all the night swimming that could be available with the right lighting. Not only will pool lighting allow you to enjoy the pool after it gets dark, but it can also give you the peace of mind needed to allow small children to swim after the sun goes down as well. You will find that you have much better visibility when you have ample lighting inside your swimming pool.

How Many Lights Should a Pool Have?

The number of lights you need depends on the size of your swimming pool. For example, 15′ x 30′ pools may only require one light while 20′ x 40′ pools typically require two lights and 20′ x 42′ pools and up usually require three or more lights.

Can You Add Lights to an Inground Pool After Installation?

While there are some accessories that you can add later after your pool is installed without any real problem, lighting isn’t one of them. That’s not to be said that it can’t be done, you will just have a much easier time getting the lighting installed if it is done during construction. To do it later, you will have to go through a major renovation of your swimming pool. It is always best to make plans for your pool lighting when you’re having the pool first constructed. The number of lights you need in your swimming pool will largely depend on the size of the pool.

Different Kinds of Pool Lighting

There are a few different pool lighting options that you can choose from. Here are the three that are most often chosen.
– LED: This is the most popular choice for pool lights because of the low maintenance required. You won’t find yourself replacing LED bulbs often and will more than likely have the ability to change the color of the lights easily.
– Fiber Optics: These were popular in the early 2000s, but they have been replaced for the most part by LED because it is such a superior product.
– Incandescent: You won’t be able to change the color of the light without changing the bulb completely with this type of light bulb. Also, you will have to replace them much more frequently as well.
