Different Types of Light Bulbs in Pompano Beach, FL; Incandescent, Halogen, LED, Compact Fluorescent Lamps & More

When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb his invention was truly mind blowing. Before light bulbs getting light in your home after the sun went down required the use of candles or fire. Since his invention technology has sure come a long way. If you have been down the light bulb aisle lately you know that there is a plethora of options available to purchase. So what is the difference with all of the different types of light bulbs? Today Burley Electrical Services

Incandescent Light Bulbs

The most commonly used light bulbs are incandescent light bulbs. The light is created when the filament in the bulb is heated to the point of glowing. You can purchase incandescent light bulbs that range from 40 watts all the way up to 110 watts. The light created by incandescent light bulbs is warm, yellow-white light. These light bulbs last for about one year before needing to be replaced. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and glass types. Incandescent light bulbs are extremely inexpensive to purchase.

Halogen Light Bulbs

Halogen light bulbs are a variation on incandescent light. Halogen light is the closest to natural daylight. It gives off a white light. When you use halogen light bulbs colors will appear sharper than with other light bulbs. Halogen bulbs use less energy than incandescent lights. Halogen lights last about a year. They are frequently used for recessed lighting, pendant lights, and under the cabinet lighting.

LED Light Bulbs

LED is short for light emitting diodes. They are the most energy efficient lighting option on the market today. Many homeowners have switched over to LED lighting to save money on their utility bills. LED light bulbs are different from incandescent and halogen light bulbs because they do not get warm. LED light bulbs are cool to the touch. In addition to costing less to run they also last longer. They can last between 5-10 years depending on how often you have your lights on. The downside to LED lights is that they are expensive to purchase.

CFL Light Bulbs

CFL is short for compact fluorescent light. Like LED lights, CFL lights are very energy efficient. When you turn on your CFL light bulb it can take up to 30 seconds to become fully lit. They contain mercury so you do have to be careful that they do not break. CFL lights are less expensive than LED light bulbs but more expensive than incandescent light bulbs.
